How to choose a broom

These days vacuum cleaners are available in a range of styles and capabilities. However, for some jobs you just need a good broom. Nothing works better than an old fashioned broom to keep hard floors of wood, tile and linoleum floors free of day to day mess. Brooms also work great to clear away leaves and debris outside. As simply designed as brooms are, not all are created equal, nor are the various models interchangeable. Which broom will work best for you depend on a few factors. What kind of floor do you need to sweep? Are you clearing away debris out doors? What kind of mess do you need to tackle? It's not rocket science, but you do need think carefully before you make your broom purchase. Or you can just consult this guide. The most important distinction between brooms types are the bristles. Most brooms fall into one of two categories: hard bristle brooms and soft bristle brooms. Each style is works best for different tasks.

 Hard Bristle

Hard bristle brooms are useful for driveways and outdoor steps, paths and paved areas. While it is possible to clear these areas with a hose or pressure cleaner, it is far more environmentally friendly to simply sweep leaves and other debris from the area. You can also use your hard bristle broom to clear pools of water away from doors after heavy rain.
Soft Bristle

Soft bristle brooms are good all-purpose aids for cleaning non-carpet flooring. Straw models are the least expensive, but they can be too abrasive for some floors.

If you have a large floor to regularly clean and need a push broom, don't forget to pick up a handle too!
